2/7/25:  Limited availability   We are making available the V3.0 version of the FIREPLUG (PolarFire type) to a  limited number of users.  We need to confirm you have an otherwise good running and operational  snowmobile.

Because this is a new design, we must avoid other potential engine malfunctions that may otherwise mask a good working CDI. Therefore, we are targeting otherwise good running sleds with technically competent users that are familiar with how the sled normally runs. 

We’ve had past issues where other conditions were blamed on the CDI, delaying the finalization of the design and release due to chasing ghost issues in some cases.

This is a Single-coil / 2-plug wire output, using a YAMAHA coil 01-143-14 (IC208) that is commonly available, with replaceable plug wires.  Coils are typically used on the VMAX4 and other Yamaha models.  Our testing has proven this coil to be reliable and rugged, and works well with our CDI packaging.

The mounting footprint utilizes the original (3) mounting holes from the POLARFIRE CDI, and the pigtail connects directly to the Ski-Doo harness / connector with no re-wiring required.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

HewTech Electronics is offering A POLARFIRE Replacement FIREPLUG CDI for the 73~78 Ski-Doo & Moto-Ski’s ignitions.

The CDI redesign using the single-coil was the result of issues found on 77/78 models.  We’ve determined the cause and changed the CDI design to cover all PolarFire years from 73-78 models.  We also took the opportunity to integrate a single-coil design which increased the quality as well as the spark energy output!

The Single-Coil model includes 2 spark plug wires (plug wires can go to either cylinder).
CDI mounts in original factory location using original factory connector.
No splicing, alternate mounting or re-wiring necessary.

FIREPLUG Includes a separate Kill-Switch wire (BLACK/WHITE) for common 2-wire tether switch connection (ground the wire through tether or kill-sw to stop spark).  This wire can be left hanging loose (no connection) if using the original 3-wire kill-switch or key-switch.  No additional wiring is necessary.

NOTE:  Suggest using resistor BR8ES-BR9ES spark plugs.  This will extend the life of the coil, also some Digital tach’s require the use of a BR-resistor plugs  to eliminate erratic display operation due to EMI interference.

TECHNICAL PROBLEMS
STILL NO-SPARK?

Verify that the chassis to engine (bonding) wire is connected & in good condition. Without this wire connection, the FIREPLUG CDI may not spark or operate correctly.  Coil requires chassis/engine being grounded together.

NOTE: The stock CDI may operate without this bonding wire, since it uses the aluminum case as a common ground. The FIREPLUG CDI case is isolated and no current passes through it, therefore the wire to connect the Chassis to Engine is necessary.

The Brown wire from the connector grounds to the engine crankcase internally at the stator plate. This wire often times breaks or corrodes over time. Verify your brown-wire does connect to engine ground coming from your engine, through the harness to the CDI.

Disconnect kill-switch harness, often times the kill switch & key-switch fail & short out the CDI box.

Verify Stator & Trigger resistance:

315-335 ohm Stator (RED to Brown)
50~60-ohm triggers (striped wires).
